At PRC, we believe that when people come together, powerful change happens—not just for individuals, but for entire communities. This past Saturday, that belief came to life during our latest Healing Spaces volunteer activation at San Jose Place.
We’re beyond grateful to the incredible volunteers who donated their time to transform the backyard of San Jose Place into a revitalized outdoor sanctuary—a space for reflection, connection, and healing for clients receiving life-strengthening services.
San Jose Place is a 90-day residential treatment home where individuals receive integrated substance use and mental health supports alongside independent living skills. The backyard, once underutilized and in need of some serious TLC, has been completely refreshed thanks to the heart and hands of volunteers.
In just two hours:
- Two overgrown hedges were trimmed and cleared.
- Underlayment, pavers, gravel, and mulch were laid down to create an inviting outdoor area.
- Donated outdoor furniture from community members, Home Depot, and Lowe’s was assembled to give the space a fresh, welcoming look.
One of the most memorable moments came when clients joined in—forming an assembly line to move heavy pavers, sharing smiles, and building connections with volunteers. Together, we created more than a refreshed space—we built a sense of community.

As one client shared,
“It’s really powerful to see people I’ve never met come in and work so hard to create a space for someone like me, someone they don’t even know. It reminds you that people care.”

We capped off the day with a BBQ lunch, celebrating the hard work, new friendships, and the knowledge that simple acts of service can have a lasting impact—not just on the spaces we share, but on the hearts of those involved. Because helping others just makes you feel good!
San Jose Place Assistant Director Eddie Logsdon shared:
“To all the volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning/ afternoon to come out to help with the whole transformation. We extend a big thank you! We look forward to returning the favor when we can come out and support you with your next project, where volunteers are.”
Why Healing Spaces Matter
At PRC, every dollar counts. By engaging community volunteers in the cosmetic upkeep of our facilities, we can dedicate more program resources directly to providing life-changing services for our clients. Projects like these uplift environments without diverting critical funds away from mental health, substance use, and housing services.
We’re able to do this through the generous support of individuals and businesses who believe in building healthier, more hopeful futures.
