Hummingbird Place: Tackling San Francisco’s behavioral health needs with compassion and care

PRC held a special event on Thursday, October 8, highlighting our Hummingbird Place program at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital with a virtual tour of the space and a conversation moderated by Chief Strategy Officer, Katherine Bella. The informative fireside chat discussion included CEO Brett Andrews, Chief Clinical Officer, John Fostel, and Melida Solorzano, Director of Hummingbird Place.

Since opening three years ago in partnership with the City, PRC’s Hummingbird Place has offered people experiencing a psychiatric episode or struggling with substance use a safe, welcoming environment with experienced behavioral health specialists. Unique in its focus and with a low-threshold, Hummingbird Place is designed as an entry point for the most frequent users of crisis and inpatient services across San Francisco who are homeless and typically the hardest to engage in stabilizing treatment, Hummingbird Place has proven to be a successful model with plans to open a free-standing center in the Mission District in 2021.
